TVS BMW COLLABORATION IN TWO WHEELERS
Indian bikemaker TVS Motor Co has announced that the BMW Motorrad-TVS collaboration in two-wheelers is in final stages, and they will form a JV before the ongoing fiscal. HS Goindi, TVS Motor Co President announcement, "Talks are on and we expect something to materialise before the end of the ongoing fiscal." He declined to comment on the nature and details of the partnership for which the company is in talks with BMW bike, which has also started selling high-end performance bikes in India since 2010.
However, the words on street suggest that the development is more as technology collaboration, so TVS bid to step up portfolio in the high-end performance bikes segment. Earlier in 2001, TVS Motor had parted ways with Japans Suzuki Motor Corp from their erstwhile joint venture and since then the Chennai-based firm has been on a solo journey. Goindi was speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the companys latest model, executive segment 125 cc bike, TVS Phoenix 125 which is priced at Rs 49,990 for drum brake version and Rs 52,000 for the disc brake variant.
TVS Motor Co currently sells a range of motorcycles, starting from entry level TVS Sport in the 100 cc segment to the 180 cc model TVS Apache. Commenting on the companys expectations from the newly launched Phoenix, Goindi said: "The overall executive motorcycle segment is about 4 lakh units a month in India now and we want to have a share of about 5-7 per cent." Overall, the company is aiming to sell around 20,000 units of the Phoenix 125, he added.
The company will also start exporting the new model from February next year, Goindi said. "We had a gap in the segment, which is the fastest growing in the market and this will now be filled by the Phoenix," TVS Motor Co General Manager Marketing Arun Siddharth said. TVS is targetting urban customers with its new model, which it claims to deliver a mileage of 67 kmpl. The new motorcycle would compete with Hero MotoCorp’s Glamour, Bajaj Auto’s Discover and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India’s Shine.

It is the first fruits of high technology. But what are they like to ride? Before going too far, I should mention that Im 165 pounds with the horse and the area we did our preliminary tests was a combination of soils with gravel roads pretty tight and high-speed two-way. Some things were consistent across the line and excellent ergonomics, the best on the brakes and solid business, a strong impression. All bikes have tranquil escape despite the beatings of two do not come with a spark arrester and sold as "closed system" of the machines.
The two-time 250XC-W feels unusually bright and welcoming, especially if you have got used to mount a four-stroke. Gearshift and clutch worked very well, and therefore the fork. 300XC-W is the most popular line of KTM Canada, and for good reason. Nothing makes an instant bottom-end torque is 300 - not even a four-stroke engine. Pull hard, too, and even power class is short compared with the drummer, relationships, feeling of lightness and 300 makes this race a very powerful bike. And perhaps the most powerful and versatile two-stroke ever built. Both two-stroke KTM prosper "repartee" in situations where their strong braking power, agility and quick bursts of acceleration out of turns to really pay off. One thing is certain, KTM two-strokes, the stone ax reliably loyal following.
The 250XCF-W was a mix for us. It feels lighter, handles better the speed of two shots, and even the suspension feels more solid and controlled. This can be attributed to a range of power and silky, which allows the entire chassis, rather than relax skitter around like a two stroke. He shoots well, but not as hard as motocross KTM 250F or 250F MXer any recently installed.
In difficult conditions, slippery 250XC-Ws would be ideal, but much faster than it has to work hard to maintain their momentum. The clutch and gearbox is excellent, which is good, because to maintain speed in the open sections, you have to drive this bike very aggressively. We loved it and would be an excellent choice for single track is slippery, but fast tracks and loose with our test area in Wyoming, which only made us work very hard.
The W-450XCF surprised us with a sense almost as agile as the W-250XCF. Its good, smooth power, it never feels heavy or intimidation, and refers to loss or called out. It was to inspire confidence in the unit, but the rear suspension feels a bit under damped compared to the lighter, slower 250XCF-W. Like the rest of the KTM 2012, the WP fork is excellent. We really liked this bike, and was the favorite bike until the time of day.
The 500XCF-W was a big improvement from the 530 old. It feels smaller and lighter than its predecessor, with a strong partner that makes it easy to get on the open sections or in the forest. This bike would play murderer! But not as a race bike that feels a bit bulky in the forest, and the rear suspension feels too soft for the speeds that this bike is capable. We love walking all day, but the race? Perhaps if there had been six inches taller and gained 40 pounds. 500XCF-W The bike was just too much for this little old writer.
We were able to drive all the cross-country running a "W" wide-ratio transmission models with the exception 150XC and 200XC-W, the impression that will have to wait until late.
This leaves us with ...
KTM 350XCF-W. We read all 350 We have heard people say it was a slow, 450, 250F, or a charlatan. Well, its sort of both things. And physically lighter than 450 pounds, just a few. The 2nd edition of the Vintage & Motorcycle show beginning tomorrow at Khasa Kothi hotel, Jaipur. More than 100 vintage to be staged on the show. The vintage collection includes classic motorcycles manufactured between 1933 and 1980, which was during the first and second world war probably. Some famous iconic brands like BSA motorcycles, Indian, Harly Davidson, Royal Enfield, Triumph, James, Excelsior, Norman are also part of the show which will be a treat to the visitors.The show is organized by Convoy Control Club, a club of bikers, who are interested in vintage bikes and cultural heritage. The club is dedicated to serve the society with its enthusiasm. The club has been involved in various social causes, like HIV aids and rights of deaf and dumb. They organize bike rallies on various social causes to increase the passion for the vintage bikes and heritage.
Mr. Upendra Shastri, President of the Convoy Control club said, "I started this club in 1995 with the idea of preserving our cultural heritage, today we have grown to 166 members, all of us being equally passionate about our goals." He further said, “We are expecting a good response this time, last time we showcased a total of 70 bikes, but this time we are expecting 120 bikes, we are growing good and I feel that we have been successful to motivate people to preserve their heritage.”
The two-day event will start on tomorrow. Margaret Alva, Governor of Rajasthan State will inaugurate the show, while Princess Diya Kumari of Jaipur and Honorable Narendra Singh will be the chief guest. On Day 2 of the event, there will be a bike rally around the city starting from the venue to continue to the Jawahar Circle ending at venue. This rally will have around 100 vintage bikes wowing the city from 2 pm to 4pm, which will be flagged-off by B.L. Soni, Police Commissioner, Jaipur City. After the rally, an award ceremony is to be held to honor the bike owners. Thakur Vikram Singh, President of Golf Club, Jaipur and Mr. Satish Jangir, Owner of Oriented Restorer will judge the bikes for various award categories. To add more spark to the show, a group of Harley owners called Jodhpur Harley-Davidson group is driving down to Jaipur to showcase their rides in the show.
